A Word from our sponsors ...

Scottish Power are delighted to be sponsoring this year's Mull of Kintyre Music Festival. The largest Scottish company, with 5 million customers throughout the UK, one of our key priorities is to maximise the benefits of local involvement in the communities where we operate. What better way than to promote an aspect of Kintyre's heritage of which it can be justifiably proud - music. The Mull of Kintyre Music Festival has presented over the years, talented and world renowned musicians such as Capercaillie in 1993 to Davy Spillane, the creator of the original Riverdance Sound in 1996, and this year is no exception. Arthur Johnstone, a great friend to the festival, will introduce...

The Michael McGoldrick Band
A stunning flute player and Uilleann piper with a respect for music that belies his mere 24 years. He has the capacity to make traditional tunes live in an exciting and relevant way and the ability to write some cracking tunes of his own. Michael has recorded with other groups, among them Capercaillie and in 1995 won the BBC Radio Two Young Tradition Award.

Deaf Shepherd
Making a welcome return to the town Deaf Shepherd have added an impressive level of musical maturity to the already high-energy intensity of their traditional jigs and reels, backed up by their own increasingly confident song writing.

Tartan Amoebas
A dynamic new force, in a new style of folk-rock music producing a vibrant cocktail of traditional reels, Caribbean rhythms and funky jazz. The Tartan Amoebas present a highly individual and irresistibly dancey take on ceilidh music. A talent to be reckoned with and music to be "reely" enjoyed.

Ivan Drever & Duncan Chisholm
This pair are best known as key members of Wolfstone, where Duncan Chisholm's fiery fiddle playing and Ivan Drever's expressive singing and guitar work have made a powerful contribution to the success of the band's supercharged Celtic rock, but this duo reveals a more intimate facet of their music.

Chris Armstrong Band
Acclaimed as "an extraordinary young talent" on the pipes by no less an authority than Fred Morrison - and he would know, Chris Armstrong and his band are making their first visit to the festival which promises to create a big birl! Campbeltown based Ross Kennedy, a progenitor of the modern Scottish folk revival, is a band member who has had enormous success on the festival circuit.

Licensing Laws

A local by-law prohibiting the consumption of alcohol outwith a "designated area" came into effect on 1st August 1999. Permission for a "designated area" for the consumption of alcohol has been granted to the Mull of Kintyre Music & Arts Association to include a cordoned off area on Kinloch Green on Saturday & Sunday 1pm-5pm only and in Burnside Square Car Park on Saturday evening 6pm-8pm only. The consumption of alcohol outwith these areas and allocated times will be deemed an offence. We will be grateful if members of the public observe the new laws in order to create a relaxed, enjoyable weekend for young and old alike and maintain a good image of the town for potential visitors and for future festivals and events.

Thank you for your support.
